Principal’s Message – October Newsletter

Dear Guthrie Families,

What a fantastic start to the school year! September was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of community that truly makes Guthrie Public School a special place.

We kicked off the month with a beautiful Terry Fox Run, where every student showed incredible respect and determination. It was inspiring to see our students working hard—not just for the run itself, but to support cancer research and honor Terry’s legacy. Their spirit and effort made it a memorable day for all.

Our fall sports season is now underway! We’re proud to have our Intermediate Co-Ed Flag Football team and Junior Girls Volleyball team already in action. We’re looking forward to even more sporting opportunities in the coming weeks and can’t wait to cheer on our Guthrie athletes.

We also had a very successful Turn-Around Day this September, with minimal movement and smooth transitions—thank you to our staff and students for making that happen.

A heartfelt thank you to all the families who joined us for Meet the Teacher Night. Ms. Michaud (VP) and I were thrilled to meet so many members of our community. One thing that stood out to both of us was the incredible number of parents proudly wearing Guthrie gear—it was a powerful reminder of the deep sense of pride and connection that exists here. The community spirit in this building is truly like no other, and we are both so happy to be part of it.

Thank you for your continued support. We’re looking forward to a wonderful October together!

Warm regards,
Rob Norris
Principal, Guthrie Public School

Thank You for Supporting Our 30th Terry Fox Run!

A huge thank you to the Guthrie community for making our 30th Annual Terry Fox Run such a success! We’re thrilled to share that we didn’t just meet our fundraising goal of $2,500 — we surpassed it, raising an amazing $4,200!

Your generosity and spirit truly make a difference. The Terry Fox Run is more than just a fundraiser — it’s a chance for us to come together as a school and honour Terry’s incredible legacy of courage, determination, and hope.

This year’s theme, “FINISH IT,” reminds us of our shared goal: to help carry on Terry’s dream of a world without cancer. Our students are the next generation to take up this mission, and with your support, we are one step closer.

Thank you for being part of this meaningful cause!

Message from the library:

A heartfelt thank-you to all the parents and students who supported our annual Fall Book Fair! Thanks to your purchases, we’ll be adding some exciting new titles to our non-fiction collection for everyone to enjoy.

Students who return their library books on time continue to enjoy a fun guessing game each month. This month, the jar was filled with colourful pom poms. Congratulations to Brooklyn Penner, McKenna Clark, Emma Bradley, and Ruby James, who all correctly guessed the total of 110 pom poms! Next month, students will have the chance to guess how many spooky eyeballs are in the jar—so don’t forget to bring those books back on library day for a chance to participate.

Finally, congratulations to the students who have been selected to help in the library this year. Your enthusiasm and teamwork are greatly appreciated, and I look forward to working with each of you.

Rainbows at Guthrie:

Guthrie Public School will once again be offering a weekly support group for our students who are going through painful life transitions (e.g. separation, divorce, or death). Rainbows is an international, not-for-profit organization that fosters emotional healing among children. Staff members who have been trained with the Rainbows program will meet with small groups of students once a week during a nutrition/fitness break for 12+ weeks. If you would like your child to participate in Rainbows at Guthrie, forms are available at the office (or you can ask your child’s teacher to send one home). Please return forms to Mrs. Liedtke or to the office no later than Monday, December 8th. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Liedtke. Thank you!

End of Day Routines:

If you are aware that there will be a change to your child’s end of day routine ( being picked up instead of going on the bus) please be sure to advise the teacher by sending a note with your child. This information is important to ensure the safety of your child/ren! Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Please do your best to have your end of day plans in place before the school day begins, and to refrain from calling the office between 3:00-3:40 unless it’s an emergency.
